B.A.S.E
(Brackenstown Adult Scene of Education) was
established by a group of dedicated women of the parish in 1987 under the
leadership of particularly Sister Ellen of the Maria Reparatrice
Congregation who had been invited to the parish by Fr. John O'Connell. His
successor, Roy Drummey fully supported this initiative and donated a site
for a new building - opened in 1998 - which is home for a wide range of
community activities ranging from Aerobics to Conselling, Flower
Arranging, creche facilities and housing the building. A temporary
structure was put in place and classes a number of subjects of interest to
women were started. A new BASE building was opened in 1998. This
development received widespread attention and was visited by the former
President Mary Robinson. Current plans envisage a fully equipped computer
room.
Choir: The choir
meets every Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Church for rehearsals. All
are welcome.
